  • The agria success story

Before the millionth agria machine could leave the Möckmühler factory, the very first agria motorized machine ever had to be built. Like so many things in the post-war period, this story is characterized by hardship and pioneering spirit and impressively reflects a piece of post-war economic history in Baden Württemberg.

In 1945, Erwin Mächtel, the manufacturer and founder of the former Maschinenfabrik Möckmühl, together with his partner and technical director Dipl.-Ing. Otto Göhler, managed to save part of the production facilities and raw materials of their gear factory in Karlsruhe from being dismantled and brought them to the neighboring town of Ruchsen in Möckmühl.

  • The beginnings of the company

There was little available at first, but what little there was was all the more valuable: a few good skilled workers, selected machines from the former gear factory and a plot of land with fruit trees. Soon there were two barracks here, where employees from outside the profession were trained to manufacture the first products from existing material remnants. The first products were neither airplane parts, which required Mächtel and Göhler's creativity until 1945 due to the war, nor power tools, but toy cars and tobacco pipes made from leftover phenolic resin, hand drills, can sealers and poppy seed mills. Aluminum from remaining aircraft propellers and bearings was also put to civilian use.

  • The first Power hoe is created

Encouraged by the needs and demands of the market (especially the winegrowers in the neighborhood), Mächtel and Göhler ventured into a project that resulted in a product that would carry the name Möckmühl out into the world and even become synonymous with a group of implements in many places: The agria Powerhoe. in 1946/47, under difficult material procurement and adventurous test conditions, prototypes without drive wheels were initially built, followed by the first machine with Wheel drive. The company began to specialize as a manufacturer of power tools and utility vehicles for agriculture and forestry.

  • A triumphal march begins

The first agria Powerhoe was now born, but how was it to continue without money and materials? Time was working for agria: in 1948, the currency reform brought the money, and the Marshall Plan created fundamentally different conditions for economic development. Everything now happened very quickly and the economic miracle took its course. As early as 1948, the company in Möckmühl was delighted to receive its 100th machine.
